License & Registration

Drivers License
The Illinois Secretary of State offers an online Facility Finder where you can find the location nearest to you. If you are looking to apply for your first driver’s license, make sure to check the Available Services at your location to make sure the facility offers "First Time Issuance" for a driver's license.

Vehicle Registration
To register your vehicle in Illinois, you are required to provide proof that you live in Illinois. You will also need to provide your title, Odometer Disclosure Statement and proof of insurance. You must apply for registration within 30 days of moving to Illinois.

You will need to take all of these necessary documents and forms along with the fee for registration (The fee for car registration is $101, or $114 if the car has vanity plates. The title fee is $50) to a nearby office.

Voter Registration

To be eligible to vote in Sangamon County, you must:

Be a United States Citizen
Be 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election and turn 18 on or before the date of the General Election
Live in your election precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day
Not be serving a sentence of confinement in any penal institution as a result of conviction
Not be claiming the right to vote anywhere else

You may register to vote at any time. Voter registration is available in-person at the Sangamon County Election Office located at 200 S. 9th Street, Room 105 of the County Building. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Parking is available in the County lot across the street from our building.
