Ameren Illinois provides service to residents in unincorporated Sangamon County and several of the villages in Sangamon County. An electrical cooperative provides service to residents in other Sangamon County villages. Natural Gas Ameren Illinois provides natural gas for Springfield and most Sangamon County residents. A few of the villages in Sangamon County provide natural gas service for their own respective villages. Two major Interstate Natural Gas lines run through the southern portion of Sangamon County. The Rockies Express (REX) Pipeline and the Panhandle Eastern both provide the region with an abundance of natural gas for utility-scale development. This unique feature is rarely found in such close proximity. WATER City, Water, Light & Power (CWLP) is the largest water provider in Sangamon County. CWLP serves the City of Springfield and many of its surrounding villages. WASTEWATER The Sangamon County Water Reclamation District (SCWRD) is the largest wastewater service provider in Sangamon County. The SCWRD operates two wastewater plants, the Spring Creek Plant and the Sugar Creek Plant.
